Soldier Whirligig.
Hand carved from wood with a tin bill on his hat. If he originally
was painted it has all worn off from many years of weather exposure,
but his kepi suggests that he was intended to represent a soldier
from the Civil or Indian war period. Carved in the round and
mounted on a custom iron stand. 13" tall (15" with
stand). In very good structural condition with only a very minor
old sliver off the side of the paddle on his right side and a
small piece missing from his right paddle junction that does
not affect function. There is an old water stain at his midriff
which documents his many years of outdoor service. Circa probably
late 19th or early 20th century. (CM-28)
