Hardwood carving of a workman
standing in profile. 19 ½" tall x 3 1'2 " wide
at base. The metal plate at the base has holes permitting the
figure to tip and fall when hit by a projectile thrown or otherwise
propelled by a customer with sufficient force. We suspect the
projectile in question was a tennis ball or hard rubber one given
the relative lack of damage to the figure. The paint appears
to be original and there are some minor losses. Alphonse is smoking
a cigar or cigarette and seems rather composed. Fabulous folk
art dating to the early 20th century. (CM-12)
