- Two very small spruce gum
boxes found in Maine and purchased together. The smaller of the
two is in a somewhat uncommon form with access provided through
the front of the box with a sliding lid. The larger one opens
in the traditional fashion with a small sliding lid across the
top. The larger box is 4 ½" H x 2 ½"
W x 1 3/8" thick and the smaller one 3 ¼" H
x 2" W x 7/8" thick. Both are in the form of miniature
books with nicely carved bindings. The larger one has a carved
heart on one side and a cross on the other. The small box has
a very glossy finish and incised borders. There are some expected
minor rubs and scratches, as these were "working boxes"
used in the field. (CQ-16)
$350 each or $660 for both
