- Very finely carved and painted
drake Hooded Merganser decoy by R.W. Schaap (1910-2000) of Oregon.
Schaap's engraved signature is on the bottom of the decoy near
a keel weight which, along with an anchor tie, suggests that
it was made as a working decoy, although it doesn't appear to
have seen much use as such. It is in excellent original condition
with great scratch painting on the flanks. Probably dates to
the mid - 20th century. Apprx. 9 ½"L x 5" H
