- Very finely carved and painted
full size hen mallard decoy by master carver, Gary Crossman of
Chincoteague Island, Va. He worked with the able assistance
of his wife, Jean Ann Wilmerton Crossman, much the same as another
famous couple of carvers - Richard and Marion Harris, did. The
Crossmans later moved to Snow Hill, Maryland, where they continued
their craft until Gary's death on an unrecorded date, presumably
in 2021 or early 2022. Jean passed away on June 29, 2022. Signed
with letter "C" on base. 16" long. The painting
is superb. The base has screw holes indicating that the decoy
was rigged for use at one point. Displays beautifully. (CS-28)
