- Crooked knife with multiple
design features, including a inlaid pewter heart and 3 carved
hearts, along with fine chip carving and vine decoration. According
to the former owner, the knife is a Native American effigy type
with the chip carving and crossed lines at the top of the handle
possibly representing the "horned Manitou" spirit.
10" L. and in fine original condition with blade secured
by copper wire wrapping. Circa early - mid 19th century. It was
formerly in the collection of a Dr. Maurer, past Director of
the University of Michigan Museum of Art. (this may have been
one Evan Maurer, although Maurer is a very common name amongst
